As a policyholder, it's your right to choose whether to keep or discontinue a product based on your needs. This page discusses the consequences and steps of cancelling your Care Health Policy, why you should not cancel it unless necessary, and applicable refunds and deductions.
Care Health Policy Cancellation in the Free Look Period
Previously, Care Health Insurance offered a 15-day free look period to review terms and cancel policies. However, according to the insurer’s latest announcement, a zero free look period is now applicable. This means policies will not have a standard review period, and cancellations will be processed on a pro-rata basis.
This change impacts policyholders as the Care Health Insurance refund policy now depends on how many days the policy was in force, rather than a full premium refund within the free look period.
What If I Cancel My Policy After the Free Look Period?
Since the Care Health Insurance free look period is now zero days, all cancellations are effectively considered post-free look period. In such cases, there will be certain deductions (as stated in your policy wording/schedule) on your refund amount. The refund is based on a quarterly/yearly/one-time premium payment that varies from plan to plan. However, the refund against the overall premiums you have paid for your policy ranges from approximately 90% to nil, depending on how long your policy was active.
Note: Every health plan comes with a different percentage of refund defining a period for cancellation. For reference, check the Care Advantage health plan prospectus to understand how policy cancellation refunds work in health insurance.
Types of Deductions in the Refund Amount
The cancellation of Care Health Insurance involves a specified refund amount with some deductions. Refunds against the overall premiums depend on the type and terms and conditions of the policy. There are three kinds of deductions in the refund amount against all the premiums you have paid to the insurer:
- Pro-rated risk on the premium paid during the policy tenure
- Expenses borne by your insurance company for pre-policy medical check-ups
- Administrative charges and stamp duty
