Broader Vision
Comparing Q2 2025 to Q2 2026, the average health insurance premium has increased by 15.45%. The premiums remained stagnant in Q2 2026 compared to the previous quarter, Q1 2026.
The premium increase has been slight compared to the ongoing medical inflation, which is around 15%. If you want to get a health insurance premium at an affordable rate, you should buy it as early as possible.
Premium Price Variation by Segment
The new data highlights that buying a health insurance plan at an early age can help you save on premiums. A 26-year-old can get a health insurance plan for ₹5 lakh sum insured at ₹10,068, while a 56-year-old has to pay an average premium of ₹26,970 for the same coverage amount.
If two adults aged 26 buy individual health insurance plans with ₹5 lakh coverage, they would need to pay ₹10,068 each, totaling ₹20,136 or even higher. However, if they buy a combined plan, it would cost only ₹14,477, saving ₹5,659 in premiums. That’s why it is always advised to opt for a combined plan to save on premiums.
